From The Past Pages Of Dawn: 1944: Seventy-five years ago: Native fascists

(LETTER) It would be interesting to watch the repercussions of Sir Abdul Qayum’s resolution, moved in the Central Legislative Assembly, against the Bombay Plan. The upper-class Hindus are now growing nervous of the fact that the passage of time is exposing their hypocrisy and their tactics, hitherto adopted, to achieve their ends. But, in my humble opinion, the need of the hour is that … all the anti-Congress elements in India must impress upon His Majesty’s Government that the Indian masses, as well as the Indian Minorities, must be protected against this combined conspiracy of the Gandhiites, the Hindu Capitalists and the Hindu members of the Civil Services, who are conspiring together to subjugate the Indian masses under the domination of the Hindu Fascism…

The British Cabinet, as well as the British Parliament must be congratulated for having taken a determined stand against the astute diplomacy of these native Fascists who have all along camouflaged themselves as “nationalists’. But the Government must remain vigilant, lest her success against the Fascists on the battlefield may be nullified by the success of the native Fascists who are trying to co-ordinate the “nationalism” of Congressmen, financial supremacy of the Hindu capitalists.
