Ex-Mansehra bar president to challenge removal

MANSEHRA: Advocate Amir Khan Swati, who was removed from the office of Mansehra District Bar Association (DBA) president by Khyber Pakhtunkhwa Bar Council on Saturday, announced on Sunday that he would challenge the decision in the Peshawar High Court.

He claimed that he had done nothing wrong for which he could be removed from the office of president.

Earlier, the bar council secretary had asked Mr Swati to submit details of the DBA’s income and expenditure to it, but he refused and termed the order unlawful.

A letter issued by the bar council said that the decision to remove Mr Swati and empower the vice-president to assume the president’s responsibilities in his place was taken in general body meeting held with Khyber Pakhtunkhwa advocate general Shamail Ahmad Butt the other day.

It added that the DBA’s accounts had also been frozen till further orders.

“The management committee of the bar council has called Amir Swati to defend himself in its next meeting,” said the letter.

When contacted, Mr Swati said that he would move the Peshawar High Court against the council’s unlawful decision.
