Dengue fever claims woman’s life in city

KARACHI: Dengue fever has claimed another life in Karachi at a private hospital, taking the death toll from this mosquito-borne disease to 27 since Jan 1, 2019.

A 28-year-old woman, Midhat Fahad, wife of Fahad Hamid, resident of Gulistan-i-Jauhar, was admitted to a private hospital in North Karachi with dengue-related complications. She died during treatment on Saturday.

A total of 27 people have already died due to dengue fever in Sindh government and private sector health facilities of the city this year so far.

A spokesman for the Prevention and Control Programme for Dengue (PCPD) Sindh, while talking to PPI, confirmed the death of a woman in private hospital due to dengue fever.

He informed that at least 196 new dengue fever cases emerged across Sindh in a day and out of them 172 were detected in Karachi and 24 in other districts.

In 2019, a total of 9,750 dengue cases have been reported in Sindh so far out of which 9,148 were in Karachi and 602 in other districts.
