FM radio station launched at Karak varsity

KARAK: An FM radio station was launched at Khushal Khan Khattak University Karak here on Tuesday.

Vice-Chancellor Dr Mirza Jan along with deputy commissioner Shah Rukh Ali Khan launched the FM 98.6 radio station.

Addressing the inauguration ceremony, the vice-chancellor said it would be primarily an educational programmes radio and would be utilised to promote educational activities in the area.

He said the channel would also play role in development of the area, and asked the students of media studies department to take advantage of the initiative.

Dr Jan asked the head of the department to prepare such content for the radio station which was compatible with the local culture and beneficial for the society.

On the occasion, the deputy commissioner stressed the need for promoting things on radio which were better for the society.

Dr Banaras Khan of government postgraduate college, Karak, said though a number of communication technologies had come about the importance of radio was still recognised.

He expressed optimism that the campus radio would play due role in promotion of Pashto language and literature in the area.

He added that through the medium the unsung heroes of Pashto language and literature of the region would be introduced to the new generation.

On the occasion, Aftab Khan, deputy controller engineering Radio Pakistan, appreciated the launch of FM radio and resolved to extend technical support to the university in making the channel more effective.

Mohammad Anwar Khan Marwat, head of department of communication and media studies, said today was a great day for the university because their efforts had borne fruit in the shape of the launch of FM radio at the campus.

He said students and the people of the area would get benefit from it.
