Qamardin’s wedding was only a month from the day he was brutally murdered. The 23-year-old young man owned a sweetmeat shop and was being harrassed by extortionists to pay Rs25,000. He decided not to give in and stand up to the extortionists. He paid with his life for his act of bravery.

A report was lodged under the Anti-Terrorism Act at Thul’s A-section police station. However, even after four months of the murder, the culprits have not been apprehended.

The felons, who now are proclaimed offenders, have been threatening the eye witness (Qamardin’s cousin) not to appear in court and the police are exerting pressure on the deceased’s family to reach a compromise.

Civil society and residents of Thul have held frequent protests outside the Thul Press Club demanding justice but to no avail. Perhaps the Sindh chief minister will take notice and ensure that the culprits are brought to justice.
