No threat of martial law: Sarwar

LAHORE: Governor Chaudhry Sarwar says there is no threat of martial law in the country.

Speaking to media after attending third day Urs celebrations of Hazrat Data Ganj Bakhsh on Sunday, the governor said some people initially criticised the government for not believing in the dialogue process but when the government did make talks offer to the opposition, they (people) said it was afraid of opposition’s protest.

The governor said all facilities would be provided to opposition parties if they would stage a peaceful protest. He said the opposition parties were divided but they would participate in JUI-F’s protest to serve their political interests. “Prime Minister Imran Khan will not tender any resignation as he is elected for five years,” he maintained.

Mr Sarwar said the Indian forces were committing human rights’ violations and brutalities in occupied Kashmir besides violating ceasefire at the Line of Control. Stating Indians wanted to create unrest in Pakistan, he asked why the opposition wanted to create instability and unrest by staging protest at this crucial time when the Kashmiris were under siege.

The governor said the government had focused its all attention towards the Kashmir issue and it was also striving to expose Indian atrocities before the world, maintaining that the opposition should stage the protest against Indian atrocities, not against the government.

The governor said it was government’s responsibility to take action against those who would violate the law, adding that supremacy of constitution and rule of law would be ensured at any cost.
