Youth commits suicide over marriage dispute

BAHAWALPUR: An 18-year-old youth allegedly committed self-immolation at village Bindra Basti after failure to convince his parents to let him marry the girl of his choice.

According to police, Muhammad Ali used to sleep at his rooftop of his house. On Saturday night, his family members woke up after hearing his screams. When they rushed upstairs, they found him burning in flames. He was being shifted to the Bahawal Victoria Hospital (BVH) when he succumbed to his burns.

Ijaz Husain Shah, the district police office’s public relations officer, said the deceased was involved with a girl of his locality and wanted to marry her but his family was opposed to his proposal. After being dejected, set himself ablaze at night.

SCHOOL FEE: The chief executive Officer (CEO) of district education authority (DEA) has warned the private schools to bring back their fee structure to the level of January 2017 as per the order of the Supreme Court of Pakistan or face strict action.

In a warning note, the CEO said the authority had established a special cell for the implementation of the SC orders and the affected parents had been asked to lodge their complaints about the overcharged fee of their schoolchildren with the special cell, being supervised by the district education officers (male and female), assistant director (education) in the CEO’s office and registrar of the education departmental examinations.
