JI to move apex court for local govt elections

LAHORE: The Jamaat-i-Islami (JI) has announced approaching the Supreme Court for local government elections, saying the Election Commission of Pakistan is incomplete, which is violation of the Constitution, and the government is not taking serious steps to conduct the local government polls.

Talking to a delegation of Jamiat Ittehadul Ulema Pakistan at Mansoora on Saturday, JI Naib Emir Liaqat Baloch said the PTI government also was following the tracks of the PML-N and PPP governments and showing reluctance in announcing the schedule for LG elections.

Regarding the LG polls, he added, the PPP and PML-N had also never shown any seriousness during their respective tenures. He said the JI would launch a campaign for restoration of the LG system in the country.

SIRAJ: JI emir Sirajul Haq says the people are keen to see the real change as hollow slogans are not solution to their problems.

“People are desperate due to skyrocketing inflation, unemployment and uncertainty in government policies. A change seems indispensible to bring the country out of crisis,” he said while addressing a training session of students of Islami Jamiat Talba (IJT) at Mansoora.
