THE Green Line Project started in early 2018 to connect North Karachi to Merewether Tower was supposed to have been completed in two years. However, to date only 40 per cent work has been completed.

The project is almost complete up to Guru Mandir while the road leading from Guru Mandir to Capri Cinema is closed to traffic.

The construction work on this portion has already taken more than a year and work proceeds at a snail’s pace.

As a result raffic is diverted from Guru Mandir towards the road leading to Soldier Bazar.

From Soldier Bazar No 1 to Soldier Bazar No 3, half of the road is occupied by vendors, roadside eateries and auto mechanics. That is not all: often the sewerage lines overflow on to the thoroughfares hampering the flow of traffic.

The police and city government should remove the encroachments while the provincial and federal governments should take measure to complete the Green Line Project as early as possible.
