Minister promises judicial probe into DEO’s murder

SHANGLA: Provincial Minister for Information Shaukat Yousafzai has assured a local jirga of Chakesar and core committee of teachers that the government would conduct judicial inquiry into the killing of Kolai-Palas district education officer.

The minister along with Regional Police Officer Mazhar Khan and Deputy Commissioner Imran Hussain Ranjha visited Chakesar on Thursday and held a meeting with the core committee and the local jirga regarding the murder of DEO Nawab Ali.

The committee on the occasion presented its charter of demands to the minister. The demands include arrest of the killers without further delay, judicial inquiry into the incident, and naming both the government centennial model school and Swat University Shangla campus after the slain education officer.

The committee also demanded of the government to award Sitara-i-Jurat to Nawab Ali, provide security to education officers, announce special package for the slain DEO and impart free education to his children. It also demanded inclusion of 7 ATA in the FIR.

The RPO told the committee and the jirga that the investigation was completed and Nawab Ali was declared martyred.

However, he said the inquiry report could not be disclosed at the moment.

Earlier, upon arrival at Chakesar, local people, students and teachers chanted slogans against the minister for delay in the arrest of the killers of Nawab Ali.

While chanting slogans of “Go Shaukat Go” and “Shame Shame”, the students said as to why he had come to Chakesar too late for condolence. However, police managed to take out the minister from the place safely.
