Dasti’s degree issue: LHC bench asks IUB Syndicate to decide case

BAHAWALPUR: The Lahore High Court’s (LHC) Bahawalpur Bench on Tuesday entrusted Islamia University’s Syndicate to decide about former MNA Jamshed Dasti’s graduation degree. Dasti who heads the Pakistan Awami Raj, had challenged the decision of the IUB to declare his BA degree fake.

During the hearing of the petition, IUB Controller of Examination Ms Zurriat Zohra appeared along with her lawyer. After hearing both sides, the judge referred the issue to the university Syndicate for a decision.

The IUB controller of examination said Dasti had never been a student of the university according to its record. However, she said, the IUB would honour the verdict of the high court.

Speaking to the media, Dasti alleged that he was being politically victimised at the behest of Chancellor (Governor Muhammad Sarwar) as he was going to participate in the Azadi march being organised by JUI chief Maulana Fazlur Rehman. He further accused the Punjab government of impounding his bus on the pretext of fake registration.

STRIKE: The strike of the medics and paramedical staff of the Bahawal Victoria Hospital (BVH) on Tuesday entered the fifth day.

The medics and paramedical staff had launched their protest against the Medical Teaching Act by shutting down the BVH out-patient department (OPD).
