Dengue claims woman’s life in city

KARACHI: Provincial health authorities confirmed on Monday that dengue haemorrhagic fever claimed the life of a middle-aged woman in the city, taking the death toll from the lethal mosquito-borne disease to 17 so far this year.

Officials said Asma Irshad, a resident of North Karachi, was brought to a private hospital suffering from high-grade fever a couple of days ago.

However, they added, the patient could not survive and died on Sunday due to serious complications caused by the deadly disease.

Officials said another two relatives of the deceased also suffered from the same infection and were recovering at another private hospital.

Officials said so far 5,362 dengue cases had been reported across Sindh, of which 5,042 had been reported in Karachi alone.
