Exporters seek early release of tax refunds

LAHORE: The Pakistan Textile Exporters Association (PTEA) urged the government on Thursday to address extreme cash flow crisis with immediate liquidation of outstanding refunds.

Global opportunities are emerging and textile industry has the infrastructure and potential to double its export volume and generate two million new job opportunities, said PTEA Chairman Sohail Pasha in a statement.

He said despite extreme crisis, textile industry remained the top export-oriented sector of the economy in last decade with a 60 per cent share in the country’s export revenues. “Stagnating textiles exports have been a consistent source of concern for the economy.

Challenges like stuck up liquidity, high priced energy inputs and imposition of duties and taxes on inputs is adversely impacting production, employment and exports,” he said.
