CHAGAI: The freight train service between Pakistan and Iran was restored on Wednesday when the rail track that had been damaged earlier because of flash floods was repaired by workers of the Pakistan Railways.

Two cargo trains coming from Quetta, which had been stopped in Dalbandin, were allowed to proceed towards Mir Javeh, a border town in Iran, on Tuesday night and another train from Quetta was on its way to Mir Javeh, said officials.

The train service was suspended for three days because of the broken track. “The railway track was damaged at 14 spots in some parts of Dalbandin and surroundings. Some parts were swept away in the heavy flash floods which led to the suspension of routine operations on Quetta Spezend Railway Section,” a Pakistan Railways official based in Dalbandin told Dawn.

But sources said lack of manpower and machinery caused the delay in repairs as majority of workers worked with shovels.
