Rehman Baba Express derails

TAXILA: Railway traffic remained suspended on Rawalpindi-Peshawar section for six hours after three bogies of Peshawar-bound Rehman Baba Express derailed at the Taxila railway station on Friday. The train was on its way to Peshawar from Karachi.

Two passengers received minor injuries as they fell from the berths after the derailment. Railways authorities have ordered an inquiry to ascertain the cause of the derailment.

The railway engineering team reached the accident site and removed the derailed coaches from the track to restore rail service.

Witnesses said the 47-Up Rehman Baba Express had just left Taxila railway station, and had crossed the western cabin when it derailed.

The cause of the derailed has been attributed to a cemented block on a drainage line caving in. As a result, the track passing over the block lost support.

Passengers of the remaining bogies remained unhurt.

Because of the derailment, up and down trains were delayed by more than six hours. Passengers travelling to Karachi and Peshawar faced difficulties.
