Westerly wave brings about a nip in the air

LAHORE: It continued to rain in Lahore and a number of other cities on Sunday, further dropping temperatures and introducing chill in the air in the night.

The Met department forecast more rain in the upper parts of the country, north-east Punjab and especially in the earthquake-hit Azad Kashmir for nearly two more days. Heavy falls are also expected at isolated places in Kashmir, upper-central Punjab, districts of Hazara division and Islamabad during the next 24 hours.

Rain is being caused by a mixture of the monsoon current and a westerly wave. Temperatures have dipped because of the dominating westerly wave.

Lahore received intermittent and scattered rain. It remained cloudy to partly cloudy throughout the day, creating pleasant weather to the delight of people.

The day’s maximum temperature was 28 degrees C. It was also below 30 degrees C in most Punjab cities.

The Met department said that Islamabad received moderate to light rain ( Golra 45mm, Bokra 21, Airport 16, Saidpur 18, Zero Point 11), Khanewal 40, Jhang 34, Toba Tek Singh 30, Bahawalnagar 28, Faisalabad 26, Narowal 23,Okara 18, Kot Addu 16, Sargodha, Gujrat 15, Joharabad 13, Bhakkar, Chakwal 12, Noorpur Thal 11, Multan 9, Sialkot (City 7), Murree 5, Rawalpindi ( Chaklala 4, Shamsabad 1), Hafizabad, Mandi Bahauddin 4, Bahawalpur 2, Tahktbhai 21, Kakul 17, Cherat 11, Dera Ismail Khan 9, Kalam 5, Muzaffarabad 12, Rawalakot 5.

It forecast widespread rain/wind-thunderstorm in all districts of Kashmir, including Muzaffarabad, all districts of central-upper Punjab including Sargodha, Rawalpindi, Gujranwala, Faisalabad, Lahore, Gujrat, Sialkot, Narowal, Sahiwal and Islamabad in the next 24 hours.

Scattered rain is expected in districts of Multan, Dera Ghazi Khan and isolated in districts of Bahawalpur and Khyber Pakhtunkhwa.

Widespread rain/wind-thunderstorm is expected in districts of Mansehra, Haripur and Abbotabad, at scattered places in districts of Peshawar, Mardan and at isolated places in lower districts including Kohat, Parachinar, Lakki Marwat, Bannu, Tank, D.I Khan Gilgit-Baltistan.
