Dortmund draw with Werder to lose more ground

BERLIN: Borussia Dortmund came from a goal down but had to settle for a 2-2 draw against visiting Werder Bremen on Saturday to drop further down the standings, having won only one of their last four Bundesliga games.

The Ruhr valley club are now in seventh place on 11 points, three behind leaders Bayern Munich.

Dortmund were hoping to get over the disappointment of conceding a late equaliser against Eintracht Frankfurt but again had to be content with a point.

Milot Rashica struck in the seventh minute at Signal Iduna Park after Bremen captain Davy Klaassen won the ball from Axel Witsel to set him up.

Mario Goetze, who won the 2014 World Cup with Germany, answered two minutes later with a header from Lukasz Piszczek’s cross. Goetze.

The home side pushed for more and Marco Reus finally broke through in the 41st when he headed in Thorgan Hazard’s cross.

But Dortmund’s intensity dropped in the second half and Marco Friedl equalized for Bremen in the 56th after Josh Sargent helped on a corner.

“We should have had a third goal and conceding their final goal really hurts. We didn’t play well,” said Reus after the Bremen defeat.
