Two killed as social media post triggers armed clash

SUKKUR: Two persons were killed and two others injured in a clash between armed youth belonging to the Bhutto and Pathan communities in Darang Malook Wali village near Mirpur Mathelo town of Ghotki district on Friday.

Reports from the area suggested that a woman belonging to the Bhutto community went missing on Thursday and while a search for her was under way, someone uploaded a post on the social media claiming that she had contracted a free-will marriage with a member of the Pathan community in Khairpur.

The post triggered an armed clash between the two sides late in the night which continued for several hours and finally resulted in the death of two persons, Agho Bhutto and Islahuddin Pathan.

Two other persons also sustained bullet wounds but their names could not be ascertained immediately.

Tension prevailed in the area till late in the evening though a police force had been deployed to bring the situation under control.

A case was registered at the Belo Mirpur police station on behalf of the state against 35 persons from the two sides. Ten of them were picked up for interrogation.
