Two suspects held in Nimirta case

LARKANA: Members of the Hindu community on Wednesday took out a rally from Dharmashala demanding justice for Nimirta Amarta Mirchandani, a BDS final-year student of the Bibi Aseefa Dental College (BADC), who was found dead in mysterious circumstances in her room on Monday in Larkana.

In the latest development, police have arrested two suspects, but no FIR has been registered.

The protesters were joined by members of civil society and activists of various political and non-political organisations, including Pakistan Tehreek-i-Insaf, district bar association.

They shouted slogans against the vice chancellor of the Shaheed Mohtarma Benazir Bhutto Medical University (SMBBMU).

Dr Dharampal, Mukesh Kumar, Dr Ikram Tunio, Dr Dayali Gul, Allah Bux Unnar, advocate Athar Abbas Solangi and others participated in the protest.

They rejected the post-mortem examination report and said that they were with the people of the Hindu community and with the heirs of the deceased.

They demanded the constitution of the joint investigation team (JIT) saying that the team must also include people from the army and judiciary.

They claimed that great injustice had been committed with Nimirta which would soon be exposed.

They said that if she had committed suicide, then her body would have been found hanging from the ceiling fan, but her body was lying on her bed.

They alleged that college authorities were lying and hiding facts. Her colleagues also took out a rally and held a protest demonstration demanding thorough probe and justice for Nimirta.
