JI calls for solving Lyari’s problems

KARACHI: The city chief of the Jamaat-i-Islami, Hafiz Naeemur Rehman, said on Sunday that his party would march towards Chief Minister House if civic situation in Lyari was not improved.

Talking to reporters after visiting the camp in Lyari, Hafiz Naeem said Lyari was mother of Karachi, yet its people had been denied of basic facilities for decades.

He added his party supported the demands of the protesters, which included repair of dysfunctional reverse-osmosis plants, repairs of key streets and action against officials of Sindh Building Control Authority, Karachi Water and Sewerage Board, Karachi Metropolitan Corporation, Sui Southern Gas Company, K-Electric and KMC’s parks department who had ignored Lyari’s development properly.

Abdul Rasheed, the sole member of the Sindh Assembly representing the Muttahida Majlis-i-Amal, and JI Karachi South’s chief, said despite raising voice for the rights of Lyari in the provincial legislature, the situation had not changed.
