From The Past Pages Of Dawn: 1969: Fifty Years Ago: Student meetings

DACCA: In maintaining law and order in the Province the attitude of the Martial Law Administration has been to do so more by guidance than by resort to other means, according to a Press note issued here today [Sept 14] from the Headquarter of the Martial Law Administrator, Zone-B. It may be recalled that at the initial stage permission of authorities was required for holding any meeting or gathering — subsequently this was relaxed by allowing indoor meetings without permission. These relaxations of curbs on political activities aim at gradually bringing about a smooth functioning of political processes which is no doubt considered to be highly desirable by a vast majority of people.

With this policy of gradual liberalisation of Martial Law provisions it would indeed be regrettable if the clock were to be put back by some irresponsible or impetuous elements. It has come to the knowledge of Martial Law authorities that various student groups have decided to hold meetings, etc, from Sept 15 to 17, 1969, at Dacca and the rest of the Province.

It must be realised by all that provisions of Martial Law Regulations 50 and 10 are quite clear regarding the holding of meeting, taking out of processions and strikes.— Agency
