Ashura observed amid tight security across province

HYDERABAD: All 10th Muharram processions and majalis were held in a peaceful atmosphere and amid tight security arrangements across the province on Tuesday.

In Hyderabad city, central procession was taken out from Qadamgah Maula Ali under the aegis of Anjuman-i-Hyderi. Several anjumans participated in the procession that emerged from Qadamgah at around 10.45am and reached Karbala Dadan Shah at around 5pm amid strict security by police and Rangers personnel.

All streets along the route were closed with barbed wires and free medical camps were set up by social welfare organisations. Mourners offered Zohrain prayers at St Mary chowk where a majlis was held as well.

No unpleasant incident was reported from any part of the district.

MIRPURKHAS: Ashura was observed in a peaceful manner in the district like other parts of the country and all processions reached their destinations safely.

Over 1,200 policemen were deployed for the security of processions, Imambargahs, mosques, sensitive areas, main roundabouts and entry and exit points of the city.

Processions were also taken out in Mirwah Gorchani, Digri, Tando Jan Mohammad, Jhuddo, Naokot, Kot Ghulam Mohammad, Jhilori, Phuladyyoon, Hingorno, Sindhri, etc amid strict security.

NAWABSHAH: Ashura was observed with full religious zeal throughout Shaheed Benazirabad district where a matam on live embers was performed by mourners at Hussainiya Sajjadia Imambargah.

The city’s main procession emerged from Murtazavi Imambargah which was joined by a number of small processions. It marched on the traditional route and reached Chakra Bazaar where the mourners performed matam with knives and then moved to Imambargah Mubdul Uloom and ended up at Murtazavi Imambargah where a majlis was held.

About 3,500 personnel of police and 200 of Rangers were deployed at all important and sensitive places along the procession routes and mobile-phone services remained suspended.

Similar processions were also taken out in other towns of the district.

NAUSHAHRO FEROZE: 10th Muharram was observed with religious zeal throughout the district where a mourner identified as Muharram Khaskheli died of self-inflicted injuries.

Three men Hafiz Qurban, Hafiz Abdul Haleem and Hafiz Majid were injured when an argument between members of two groups over a water sabeel turned into a clash in Darya Khan Marri village on early Tuesday morning.

The supporters of the injured blocked the road and refused to lift the blockade when police asked them to clear the road. Police resorted to baton charge and tear gas but the protesters did not budge. Finally, Rangers controlled the situation and dispersed the protesters.

Processions were also taken out in Moro, Kandiaro, Halani, Mehrabpur, Mithiani and Padidan.

BADIN: Ashura was observed peacefully in Badin amid tight security.

Mourners including women and children attended majalis in large numbers.

MITHI: Ashura was observed through Tharparkar district on Tuesday with great religious zeal. The processions were taken out in Mithi, Islamkot, Nagarparkar, Chhachhro, Kaloi, Dahli, Dano Dandhal, Chelhar, Diplo and other towns.

A large number of people from Hindu community also took part in the processions and distributed food and drinking water among mourners.
