MANSEHRA: A fire destroyed six shops and a filling station in a market of Dubair area in Lower Kohistan district on Monday.
The fire in Markazi Bazaar along the Karakoram Highway was caused by the explosion of a gas cylinder.
Investigation officer of the Dubair police station Abdul Samad Khan told reporters that the incident caused traders a loss of over Rs5 million by destroying five general stores, a fruit shop and a petrol pump.
Shop owner Gulzaman said the people tried in vain to extinguish fire by throwing water and soil on it.
He said the fire was put out by a fire tender, which was called from Pattan, the headquarters of Lower Kohistan district.
The shopkeepers demanded of the chief minister to announce compensation for them.
WOMAN KILLED: A woman was killed allegedly by her husband in Datta village here on Sunday night.
The police said Mohammad Qasim carrying a knife stabbed Baghan Bibi over domestic issues and fled.
The body was taken to the King Abdullah Teaching Hospital, whose doctors handed it over to the family after completing medico-legal formalities.
The police said the suspected killer’s father and brother were also involved in the crime.
Also in the day, pedestrian Mohammad Safeer was run over and injured by a speeding motorcycle on a road here.
The nine-year-old was taken to the King Abdullah Teaching Hospital, whose doctors referred him to the Ayub Medical Complex, Abbottabad, due to critical injuries.
