Traffic plan devised for Defence Day

RAWALPINDI: The City Traffic Police will deploy more than 200 traffic personnel to maintain traffic on Defence Day on Sept 6.

Under the traffic plan, 201 traffic police officials, including DSPs and Inspectors would be deployed in the cantonment area at 5am to divert traffic on different routes till the conclusion of the ceremony which is expected to continue after the sunset.

Chief Traffic Officer (CTO) Mohammad Bin Ashraf said he would personally monitor traffic arrangements adding that The Mall Road, T&T Chowk to Shalimar Chowk, Kashmir Road, T&T Chowk to Chungi 22, Iftikhar Janjua Road, University Chowk near, Lal Kurti turn, Masood Akhtar Kiyani Road, Murree Road, Haider Road turn, Aziz Bhatti Road, Firdousi Road, Range Road and CMH Family ward to Gora graveyard will remain closed for traffic.

The CTO further revealed that due to security reasons, the traffic moving from Saddar to Shalimar Chowk to Peshawar Road will be diverted to Bank Road and to the Mall via MH Chowk. 

Likewise, the traffic moving from MH Chowk to Katchery Chowk will be diverted to Railway Road, Kamran Chowk to Marrer Hassan Chowk.

He further said the traffic would remain one way on Railway Road from Metro pole to Military Account Office, whereas no traffic will be allowed from Military Accounts Office to Railway Road.

Similarly, traffic will not be allowed to move from Chungi 22 to Tameezuddin Road and Kashmir Road. Traffic from Mareer Chowk to TM Chowk will be diverted to Saifullah Lodhi Road.

The CTO asked the road users to cooperate with the traffic police as the traffic police officers had been directed to keep a vigilant eye on suspicious vehicles – especially those vehicles having tinted glasses or plying without registration plate.
