LAHORE: Air-Marshal Nur Khan was today [Sept 1] sworn in as Governor of West Pakistan at a brief ceremony in the Durbar Hall of the Governor’s House. The Chief Justice of the West Pakistan High Court, Mr Justice Waheeduddin Ahmed, administered the oath of office.

The ceremony, which was attended by Martial Law Administrator Lt General Tikka Khan, Judge of the High Court and senior civil and military officials, began with the recitation of the Holy Quran. The Chief Secretary, Mr Afzal Agha, then read out the Commission of Appointment to be followed by the administration of the Oath of Office. The ceremony over, the guests were entertained at tea, where the Governor briefly chatted with them.

Air Marshal M. Nur Khan is the first Governor to assume office after the proclamation of the present Martial Law.

[Meanwhile, as reported by a correspondent in Peshawar,] Outgoing Commander-in-Chief of the PAF Air-Marshal Nur Khan said here last night that President Yahya Khan wanted to hand over power as soon as possible to the elected representatives of the people. He recalled the President’s repeated declarations in this context and said that it was in order to further this very aim that the President had decided to appoint Admiral Ahsan and himself as Governors.
