PPP workers asked to start preparations for LG polls

PESHAWAR: Pakistan Peoples Party has directed its workers to start preparations for the next local government elections and submit proposals about nomination of suitable candidates on different seats in Khyber Pakhtunkhwa.

The party has also directed its provincial chapter to initiate holding workers conventions at district level to reorganise the party from grassroots level to remove differences among the activists and prepare them for taking active part in the next local government elections.

PPP provincial president Mohammad Humayun Khan at a provincial level meeting here on Thursday said that workers should be mobilised because local government bodies completed their tenure and the government might announce schedule for the next polls soon.

PPP leaders and office-bearers from different districts including Syed Ayub Shah, Azam Afridi, Anwar Zeb Comrade, MPA Bacha Saleh, Irfan Chattan, Dr Amjad, Dr Farooq and Said Akbar Khan also shared views about the prevailing political situation in their areas and presented suggestions for strengthening of the party.

“The party will start holding worker conventions from August 31 from Swat,” Tariq Rahim, media coordinator of PPP, told Dawn. He added that as per instructions of the top leadership, the party would be reorganised to defeat its rivals in the next local government elections.

The meeting, he said, decided to focus on mass contact drive to register new members and find suitable candidates for the elections. Besides, the PPP workers would also create awareness about the poor policies of the government that led to unprecedented price hike, unemployment and poverty, he added.

Mr Rahim said that the meeting also condemned the brutal murder of a young boy of Kalam, Swat by a group of people in Gujrat city of Punjab and urged the government to provide justice to the victim’s family and arrest the killers at the earliest.
