Dengue kills Mansehra college girl, claim parents

MANSEHRA: A teenage girl enrolled in a local college has died of dengue, claim parents.

Parents of the intermediate student told reporters here that the dengue had claimed the life of their 18-year-old daughter.

They said the girl was shifted to a Rawalpindi hospital after her blood platelet count dropped alarmingly.

Deputy district health officer Dr Nasir Shah said the health department had begun an investigation to know the exact cause of the girl’s death.

“Our preliminary investigation reveals that the college girl had a very low blood platelet count a week ago before she recovered from the problem. However, she breathed her last in a Rawalpindi hospital,” he said.

The DDHO claimed that the girl underwent IgM and IgG tests for dengue antibodies but they turned out be negative.

He said the health department had collected blood samples from 36 suspected dengue cases in the last one month before sending them to the National Institute of Health for examination.

“We are ready to deal with any situation,” he said.

Dr Shah said most suspected cases, which had positive IGG and IGM tests, were referred to the NIH for examination.

He said all those kept in an isolation ward of the King Abdullah Teaching Hospital had been discharged.

The DDHO said fumigation was under way in areas, where dengue cases were reported.

He said the department’s teams were busy carrying out anti-larva spray in and outside houses and buildings and removing stagnant water.

TEACHER ATTACKED: A ninth grader fired on his teacher in the classroom at the Government High School in Shamdarah village of Oghi area on Wednesday.

The Oghi police said the reason behind the incident wasn’t immediately known.

They said raids were being conducted to arrest the suspect.

Meanwhile, the robbers looted a family in Hafeez Bandi area.

They barged into the house of Shimraz Khan and took away Rs50,000 cash, gold ornaments, and other valuables.

The police registered a case and began investigation.
