Water filtration plants in Swabi in state of disrepair

SWABI: Almost all water filtration plants installed in different areas of the district by the previous district government are in a state of disrepair and of no benefit to the people, according to sources in the district government.

They said that the filtration plants installed for provision of drinking water to the residents had stopped functioning and no one showed interest to repair them.

They said that these plants were built when incumbent provincial minister for local government minister, Shahram Khan Tarakai, was district nazim. They recalled that at the time of installation it was stressed that the project would provide clean drinking water to the residents and protect them from various water-borne diseases.

The plants were installed in the Swabi district headquarters, Topi tehsil main city, Tarbela Dam Right Bank residential colonies and some other areas.

Residents say no one interested in repair of the plants

When contacted, district nazim Zahid Khan said he knew that almost all water filtration plants had been out of order, but it seemed that these were in a bad condition and beyond repair.

Residents said that they had approached the district government and other officials concerned for repairing the filtration plants, but they did not take steps for unknown reasons.

When contacted, officials in the district government said that these plants needed replacement which requireed adequate funds and at present there was no plan in place to repair or replace them.

DOG BITES SIX: A dog bit six people in Shakrai area of Topi city here on Wednesday.

The victims said that they noticed a dog approaching towards them, but they did know that it was mad. They said that the dog jumped at them and bit them one by one. The local people later killed the rabid dog.

Doctors at the tehsil headquarters hospital said that there were signs of injuries on bodies of the victims who had been told to complete the anti-rabies vaccine course.

Dr Mohammad Sherin said that there were numerous stray dogs in the city that could become a serious threat to the health of local people.
