Small projects to create 3m jobs

KARACHI, Jul 29: Advisor to Prime Minister on Finance, Dr. Salman Shah said Thursday the government had planned to set up community-based projects to create up to 3 million jobs. He was speaking at an evening with newly elected council of Institute of Chartered Accountants of Pakistan (ICAP) here on Friday.

Dr Shah underlined the need for sustainable growth in employment opportunities along with economic growth of the country. “Our employment generation does not match with 8pc economic growth,” he said. Apart from the government, the society also had obligation to create jobs, he added.

He said the international environment of terror was over-shadowing the economic growth. Dr Salman Shah said Pakistan’s economy would have to be integrated with the world economy.

He said economic growth of a country depends on its competitiveness, elimination of inefficiency and slackness, enhanced inputs of value-addition and specially the human resources development. “We have to invest a lot in mobilization of human resources as it is key part of an economy,” he said.

The Adviser to Prime Minister said infrastructure needed more attention with the growth of economy. The government had already initiated many plans for its upgradation and expansion. He said agriculture is the future’s potential sector here. —APP
