11 injured in various firing incidents

KARACHI: At least 11 people were injured, mostly in celebratory firing carried out in connection with Independence Day, in different parts of the city late on Tuesday night, officials said on Wednesday.

They added that soon after midnight, several areas reverberated with jubilant gunfire, resulting in injuries to 11 persons, including four females and three children.

Azizabad police said that Vaniya Shayan, 19, was injured inside her flat in Block-8 of Azizabad and shifted to the Abbasi Shaheed Hospital (ASH) for treatment.

In Chakiwara, Kulsoom, 20, sustained a bullet wound while she was walking by Qadri Masjid in Gulistan Colony. She was shifted to the Dr Ruth Pfau Civil Hospital Karachi for treatment.

According to Jamshed Quarters police, 25-year-old Tariq Shafiq was hit by a stray bullet in his Adil Apartments flat near Gurumandir. He was hospitalised.

A 13-year-old boy, Moiz Ahmed, was shot at and wounded when unknown persons resorted to celebratory firing near the Parking Plaza on Preedy Street, Brigade police said. The boy was admitted to the Jinnah Postgraduate Medical Centre for treatment.

Ibrahim Hyderi police said that 30-year-old Waqar Ayub sustained injuries when a bullet fired from an unknown location hit him near Korangi River. He was taken to the JPMC in a critical condition.
