LAHORE: The Lahore College for Women University (LCWU) Syndicate on Tuesday approved Rs180m budget for financial year 2019-20.

The meeting of the Syndicate was presided by Vice Chancellor Prof Dr Bushra Mirza. LCWU Registrar Uzma Batool, Treasurer Abdul Ghafar and other members were also present.

The meeting unanimously approved scholarships worth Rs22m for the deserving students and increased the annual research fund for the students. It also approved increase in basic pay and time pay scale of the employees according to the government decision.

VC Prof Mirza said they were increasing the research grant to promote research culture at the university and the fund would also be spent on holding conferences, workshops, seminars, travel grants and publication of research journals. She said they would pay research scholars from this grant.

EXHBITION: The Punjab University Library organized poster exhibition on the theme of “Azadi and August 14” along with farewell party for library interns.

The exhibition was arranged as a project assignment for the students of the Library and Information Science departments of the Punjab University, University of Sargodha and Allama Iqbal Open University.

Thirty-five students of these universities were provided with practical training regarding the conventional and digital services of the library in two months programmes.

The programme was specially designed to enhance the students’ IT-based skills, including web designing and creating digital OPAC, along with improving their administrative and personality skills.

The students admired the efforts of the library instructors and showed their full enthusiasm while working in the library.

The visitors to the poster exhibition praised and acknowledged the abilities of students and their instructors.

Dr Muhammad Haroon Usmani, the chief librarian, said that his mission was to serve the community by all means.

He said the majority of the librarians were giving their best to the academic community despite of all economic and administrative hurdles in our systems and he believed that future librarians, like these interns, would not only carry on the mission but would also paint a brighter portrait of librarianship with their excellent skills.
