Substandard oil seized

LAHORE: The Punjab Food Authority (PFA) seized 50,000 litres of substandard cooking oil from two trucks and sealed the oil mills.

PFA Director General retired Capt Muhammad Usman said the oil was prepared after mixing used oil in the oil extracted from animal filth, said a press release issued here on Monday.

The PFA watchdog team sealed Hameed Oil Mills for violating the provincial food law, he said and added that the PFA seized 50,000 litre oil from the mill branches located in Lahore and Hasilpur.

The DG said the harmful oil was supplied to hotels and different oil mills, however, the use of such oil was strictly prohibited in preparation of any food products according to the Punjab Pure Food Regulations 2018.

He said the extracted oil from animal fat could only be used in biodiesel and consuming such oil causes health issue.

The authority was fully active to ensure the provision of healthy and safe food for public in the market, he added.
