NAB summons Maryam, brothers on 31st

LAHORE: The National Accountability Bureau (NAB) Lahore has summoned PML-N vice-president Maryam Nawaz and his brothers Hussain and Hassan in a money-laundering and income beyond means case on July 31.

The NAB had initiated investigation against Maryam Nawaz, former premier Nawaz Sharif, opposition leader in National Assembly Shahbaz Sharif, Hamza Shahbaz, Yousuf Abbas and others in connection with money-laundering and income beyond means case following the Islamabad accountability court rejected its application seeking legal proceedings against Ms Nawaz in another case.

Earlier, the NAB had declared that it would not summon women in investigation against them. However, in this case Maryam Nawaz was a major shareholder of Chaudhry Sugar Mills and had been summoned, said a source.

The NAB reportedly traced numerous telegraphic transfers (TTs) worth millions of rupees by the Sharif family and the end beneficiaries included Maryam Nawaz and other owners of the Chaudhry Sugar Mills. The money-laundering evidence against the owners of the sugar mills surfaced during the probe against Shahbaz Sharif and his sons Hamza and Salman in income beyond means and money-laundering case, the source said.

Earlier, Yousuf Abbas, son of the late Abbas Sharif, appeared in the NAB.

Maryam told a press conference that she would appear in the NAB.
