Police official suspended

ISLAMABAD: A police official has been suspended in response to allegations that he forced a complainant to settle a case with the suspect and refused to register a case.

Police said on Monday that Deputy Inspector General of Police (Operation) (DIG) Waqaruddin Syed has initiated an inquiry into the allegation.

They said a resident of the capital approached police high-ups with a complaint regarding a sub-inspector (SI) with the Lohi Bher police.

The complainant told senior police officers that the Lohi Bher police did not register a case in response to his complaint.

He said the SI asked him to compromise with the suspect against whom he had lodged the complaint.

Police said the SI was suspended in response to the citizen’s complaint.

A police officer told Dawn that while the SI has been suspended, action has not been taken against the station house officer, duty officer or clerk (moharrar), who are also response for initiating legal proceedings when a complaint is lodged at a police station.

He said the inquiry would also consider their response to the complainant and their failure to pursue the complaint.

DIG Syed could not be reached for comment.
