Police told to dispose of all vehicles kept at police stations

RAWALPINDI: The police have been directed to dispose of all vehicles and motorcycles at police stations across Punjab and submit a monthly report to the inspector general of police Punjab.

Hundreds of vehicles or motorcycles impounded by police under section 550 of the CrPC have been kept at police stations and Police Lines Headquarters for a long time. Many of them are rusting or have parts missing.

Section 550 states: “Any police officer may seize any property which may be alleged or suspected to have been stolen, or which may be found under circumstances which create suspicion of the commission of any offence.”

At a high-level meeting with divisional police chiefs, the IGP directed for all such vehicles to be disposed.

All station house officers (SHO) have therefore been directed to dispose of vehicles at their police stations and report to the regional police officer.
