CM awards prizes to outstanding sportsmen

LAHORE: Punjab Chief Minister Usman Buzdar on Saturday visited the Nishtar Park Sports Complex and distributed prizes among the players who excelled in different events in the recent past.

The Chief Minister distributed prizes among the medal winners and prominent performers of the Snooker Team World Cup, Asian Wheelchair T20 Cricket Cup and medal winners of the 72nd Punjab Games.

Snooker players Muhammad Bilal, Asjad Iqbal and Babar Masih were awarded Rs100,000 each cash prize for their excellent performance in the international events.

National wheelchair cricket team was awarded a cash prize of Rs500,000 for defeating India in Asian Wheelchair T20 Cricket Cup final in Nepal in May this year.

The 72nd Punjab Games fastest 100m sprinters Ali Ahmed and Faiqa Riaz got cash prize of Rs50,000 each while deaf bodybuilder Asghar Ali was also awarded Rs15,000 for his performance.

Punjab Minister for Sports, Youth Affairs and Tourism Rai Taimoor Khan Bhatti in his speech on the occasion said the Punjab Games were held recently after a long gap of eight years.

Secretary and Director General Sports Adnan Arshad Aulakh and other top officials were also present.

The chief minister also visited the international swimming pool and the gymnasium at the complex and also inaugurated E-Library there.

Mr Buzdar was informed that e-libraries with all modern facilities had also been launched in 20 districts of the province.

E-Library project had been completed many months back but it could not be made functional because the building awaited formal inauguration.
