Rainfall likely in twin cities this weekend

ISLAMABAD: Scattered rainfall is expected in Islamabad and Rawalpindi from this weekend, Met Office said on Friday.

Besides, light thundershowers are likely in Lahore, Bahawalpur and Kashmir division during the next 24 hours. A westerly wave is present over Malakand, Hazara, Mardan, Peshawar, Kohat, Bannu, Rawalpindi, Sargodha, Faislabad, Sahiwal, Multan, D.G. Khan, D.I. Khan, Zhob, Kalat, Sukkur divisions which would result in light thundershower at isolated places in these areas.

As the monsoon has set in, isolated heavy falls are also expected in Lahore and Gujranwala divisions while hot and humid weather is expected elsewhere in the country. Same pattern of rain will follow on the weekend as windstorms are expected on Saturday at scattered places in Malakand, Hazara, Kohat, Bannu, Rawalpindi, Gujranwala, Sargodha, Faisalabad, Lahore, Multan, D.G. Khan Sahiwal and Islamabad divisions while hot and humid weather will be witnessed elsewhere in the country.

Murree received 55mm rainfall on Friday followed by Kot Addu 47mm, Faisalabad 27mm, Khanewal 14mm, Layyah 10mm, Islamabad 6mm, Sahiwal 6mm, Sialkot, Chakwal and D.G. Khan 1mm.

Meanwhile, the Rawalpindi Waste Management Company (RWMC) has urged the citizens to avoid littering the city’s nullahs and drains.

Manager, Operations, Dr Hamid Iqbal said this during his visit to Raja Bazar where he inspected the ongoing cleanliness of nullahs and drains.

The organisation has accelerated the campaign to clean up the city’s choked water systems due to monsoon season, he added.
