SBCA employee shot dead inside office

KARACHI: An employee was shot dead inside the office of the Sindh Building Control Authority (SBCA) at Civic Centre allegedly by his colleague over some issue, New Town police said on Friday.

They said Syed Ashraf, 55, was shot at and wounded by Babar on Thursday. He was taken to a private hospital where he succumbed to his wounds during treatment at around 3am on Friday.

The police arrested the suspect.

Gulshan SP Shahnawaz Chachar said the murder appeared to be an outcome of exchange of hot words between the employees.

Couple killed

A couple was shot dead in Shah Latif Town on Friday, according to police. They had married of their free will in Bannu, Khyber Pakhtunkhwa, a few months ago.

They said Abrar Khan, 37, and his wife, Shadaba, 30, were asleep in their home when unknown gunmen stormed in, opened indiscriminate firing and fled. They died on the spot.

The police said that each victim sustained 10 bullet wounds on different parts of their bodies.

Area SHO Gul Baig said the victims originally hailed from Bannu. They had married of their own consent. They had come to Karachi around five or six months ago and were living in a rented house in the city.

The officer said the man had married Shadaba, who was also his sister-in-law, which was opposed by their relatives. The SHO suspected that the relatives might be involved in the double murder.

The man’s relatives, who had been informed in KP, were on the way to Karachi. The bodies were shifted to the Jinnah Postgraduate Medical Centre to fulfil legal formalities.
