Man arrested with heroin in Kohat

KOHAT: Riaz Mohammad Shaheed police on Monday arrested an interprovincial carrier while trying to smuggle heroin from Khyber tribal district to Punjab at the toll plaza on the Indus Highway here.

The heroin was cleverly hidden inside the sole of the sandals he was wearing.

SHO Fayyaz Khan said when they stopped a coach going to DI Khan and searched a person they found one kilogramme of fine quality heroin.

The smuggler identified as Abdur Rehman hailing from Punjab was shifted to the police station where he admitted to trying to smuggle the contraband to Punjab.

A case was registered against him.

CRACKDOWN ON UNDERAGE DRIVERS: The traffic wardens on Monday launched a crackdown on underage drivers and non-registered vehicles on the orders of district police officer Wahid Mehmood.

During checking on the intra-district routes the wardens held hundreds of teenagers and impounded 640 vehicles.

The vehicles chassis numbers were checked through the excise department.

The police also recovered three stolen motorcycles. Over 140 drivers were ticketed for not wearing helmets, 15 for tinted glasses and hundreds for absence of number plates and non-registration of vehicles.
