Two suspects shot dead in Superhighway ‘encounter’

KARACHI: Two suspects were shot dead in an ‘encounter’ off the Superhighway late on Wednesday night, said the SITE Superhighway Industrial Area police.

They added that two armed men were allegedly looting people near a textile mill when a police party on patrol reached there.

Seeing the police, the suspects tried to flee and opened fire on the law enforcers.

As a result of the firing, constable Abid Shah was wounded, said area SHO Chaudhry Aslam.

The police chased the fleeing suspects and after an exchange of gunfire, both the alleged robbers were shot dead, added the officer.

One of the deceased was identified as Wajid Manzoor.

The other’s identity remained unknown. The police claimed to have seized two TT pistols, snatched mobile phones and one motorbike from them.

The deceased were taken to the Abbasi Shaheed Hospital to fulfil medico-legal formalities.

The officer said that the condition of the wounded constable, who was admitted to the same hospital, was out of danger.

Mr Aslam added that the police were trying to obtain the criminal record of the deceased suspects.

Man shot dead by ‘bike-snatchers’

A 40-year-old man was shot dead by suspected bike-snatchers over putting up resistance in Gulshan-i-Iqbal late on Wednesday night, said the Aziz Bhatti police.

They added that three suspects riding a motorbike intercepted Nazeer Bashir near Aladdin Park on main Rashid Minhas Road. They tried to snatch his motorcycle from him. As he put up resistance, the suspects opened fire on him and fled along with the snatched two-wheeler, said area SHO

The victim sustained critical bullet wounds and was taken to the Jinnah Postgraduate Medical Centre, where doctors pronounced him dead on arrival.
