Outages as plants go offline due to fault

LAHORE: Various power plants, including 747-Guddu, went offline due to some technical fault on Monday, forcing the power distribution companies to observe forced shutdowns in urban and rural areas in the country.

On the other hand, the power transmission and distribution systems continued to be overloaded for the last three days or so, leading to tripping and power fluctuation off and on across the country.

“The situation remained problematic on Monday after 1,400MW went out of the system probably due to technical fault developed with some wind energy plants, Guddu-747, a private sector plant and some others. Therefore, among others, our company too was left with no option but to observe outages,” an official of the Lahore Electric Supply Company told Dawn.

He said since the system faced a 1,400MW shortfall, Lesco was provided with 200MW less than its total demand. Other companies too faced power shortfall.

He said the tripping as reported from various parts of Lahore and adjoining areas was perhaps due to overloading of the system due to the increasing demand.
