MANSEHRA: The participants of the first-ever regional conference of station house officers from across Hazara division highlighted the issues of human resource, logistics and long duty hours.

They, however, said they would do their duty diligently to restore the people’s confidence in police.

Addressing the concluding session of the two days event at the police Lines here on Saturday, deputy inspector general of police, Hazara region, Mohammad Ali Babakhel said the police stations confronted many issues, especially shortage of staff, logistics problems, and long working hours.

He said the conference was meant to highlight the police’s problems in the region and find their solutions to free Hazara from crimes.

“We will share the recommendations made during this event with the relevant quarters for necessary action,” he said.

The DIG said SHOs were ‘ears and eyes’ of the police force and if they performed their duty with utmost professionalism and impartiality, then the crime rate would decline drastically restoring the people’s confidence in them.

“If we discharge our duties with sincerity and honesty, we will achieve our targets,” he said.

Fifty-seven SHOs from Haripur, Abbottabad, Mansehra and Battagram districts and three Kohistan districts attended the two-day conference and highlighted their problems.

District police officer Zaibullah Khan and other police high-ups were also in attendance.

MAN KILLED: Gunmen killed a man and injured his friend in Khaki area on Saturday.

Mohammad Yasir and his associate stopped Mohammad Adil and Mohammad Uzmat from sitting in a street but the latter offered resistance prompting the former to fire gunshots, which left both injured.

Mohammad Adil was declared dead after he was shifted to a nearby hospital.

The Khaki police registered an FIR and began raids to arrest gunmen.

Also in the day,six passengers suffered critical injuries when a wagon plunged into a ravine in Dara area.

The people shifted the injured to a hospital, where the condition of two of them was stated to be critical.
