Hospital waste anti-recycling teams attacked

LAHORE: The city administration on Wednesday launched an operation against the people involved in manufacturing various items through recycling the hospital waste. During a raid, some factory workers also attacked the joint team of the city admin, environment and other departments with knives, injuring an official on the spot.

According to a spokesman, Deputy Commissioner Ms Saleha Saeed also led the operation by starting it with a raid at a factory on Bund Road late on Tuesday night. “During raid at a factory situated at Khokhar Town (Khalid Park, Bund Road), the team found stock of the hospital waste being recycled for manufacturing the baby plastic feeders, nipples, utensils, shoppers etc. Some workers led by one Niamat also attacked the team, injuring an official on the spot. However, the police arrested all the suspects and shifted them to lock-up,” the spokesman said. The unit was also sealed by the team.

Later the team, which was headed by Lahore Commissioner Dr Mujtaba Paracha raided four factories in Malipura. Here also, the team faced resistance, as suspect Nauman and others attacked the team. The team in all raids shifted the entire hospital waste to Children’s Hospital for incineration purposes.
