KARACHI: Widespread rains lashed most of the Tharparkar region as well as parts of Badin and Dadu districts over the past 24 hours, reports reaching here on Tuesday evening said. Heavy spells of intermittent rain were continuing in many areas of Tharparkar till last reports came in at around midnight.

MITHI: Over three-fourths of the Tharparkar region received many spells of heavy, moderate and light rain on Tuesday.

The rain had started on Sunday and intermittently continued for a third consecutive day.

It brought smiles on the faces of Tharis, whose region chronically faces drought and resultantly causes poverty.

The areas that received heavy rains on Tuesday included Mithi, Kaloi, Diplo, Nagarparkar, Islamkot and all their adjoining villages.

People witnessed germination on the hills of Nagarparkar, Dahil, Chhachhro and other areas, heralding good news for owners of livestock as the rain would help grow fodder for their animals within a week’s time, besides giving a much-needed boost to the cultivation of traditional crops.

Weather had turned pleasant after months of severe heat.

Meanwhile, lightning struck Pabohar village near Diplo town late on Monday night killing more than 110 goats.

MIRPURKHAS: A dust storm swept through Mirpurkhas city and its adjoining areas on Tuesday causing widespread damage.

High-velocity winds brought down many full-grown trees and billboards in the city and on its outskirts but also brought down the otherwise very high temperatures.

Skies over Mirpurkhas district remained overcast during the day. People expected downpour sometime in the evening but their hopes faded as not even drizzle was reported from any area of the district.

Routine business, commercial and other activities in the city were badly disrupted by the storm.

BADIN: A brief spell of heavy rain eased weeks of extreme weather conditions in Badin city and several other towns and villages of the district on Tuesday.

It started raining in the city at 5.15pm and intermittently continued for about half an hour.

Heavy, moderate or light spells of rain also pounded Talhar, Tando Bago, Kadhan, Golarchi, Kario Ghanwer, Matli, Khorwah and other towns of the district.
