Landslide kills two tourists in Kaghan valley

MANSEHRA: Two tourists from Wah Cantt were killed and 10 others suffered injuries on Saturday when a landslide hit their vehicle near Kaghan as the scenic valley received a record number of tourists during Eidul Fitr holidays.

The incident occurred in Plundri area near Kaghan when a landslide hit a vehicle of tourists and two of them, including Imran Haseeb, 40, and Adil Shahzad, 36, both from Wah Cantt were killed.

“The injured and dead were taken to the rural health centre, Kaghan, from where two seriously injured were referred to a hospital in Mansehra,” Dr Shahzad Ali Khan, the district health officer, told mediapersons.

He said that the health department was put on high alert in Kaghan valley and they had also received six other tourists injured in minor accidents.

Meanwhile, one person was killed and five others sustained injuries when a jeep plunged into a ravine in Luo Banda area of Lower Kohistan on Saturday.

“Police shifted the injured to a nearby hospital where doctors declared one of them dead,” Sulman Khan, district police officer of Lower Kohistan, told mediapersons. The jeep was on its way to Rawalpindi from Gilgit-Baltistan.

Rizwan Kareem died in the mishap while Mumtazur Rehman, Didar Ali, Shahrukh Mir, Iqdar Khan and Noorud Deen were injured. Also in the day, one Arbaz Khan, 15, drowned in Indus River at Kor Kallay area of Torghar district.
