‘Contaminated liquor’ claims three lives

LAHORE: Three persons reportedly died after consuming adulterated liquor near Youhanabad here on Saturday.

Initial police reports suggested that the three friends consumed liquor at a gathering at a house of one of them in Asif Town. After a few drinks all the three -- Gull Zaman, Nawaz and Rashid Masih -- aged between 25 to 30 years, fainted.

As their condition worsened, the locals called the Rescue 1122 and the Nishtar Colony police.

They were shifted to hospital where two of them died shortly after landing in the emergency ward, while the third one expired during treatment after a couple of hours.

The police initially blamed contaminated liquor for the deaths, seizing the remaining bottles recovered from the house and dispatched these to the lab for forensic analysis.

An official said the police were looking for the source who supplied the contaminated liquor to the victims.

The bodies were moved to the city morgue for the postmortem examination to find out exact cause of the death of the three men, he added.
