Several traders fined for overcharging

KHAR: The administration on Saturday fined several shopkeepers for overcharging during raids in different bazaars of Mamond tehsil.

An official told reporters that the shopkeepers were arrested during surprise raids conducted by a joint team of the district administration and Levies force. Assistant commissioner Habibullah Khan led the raids.

During the visit, the official said the team checked the prices of various food items, including fruits, vegetables, meat and kebab, and found a number of traders violating the official pricelist.

According to the official, several shopkeepers were arrested in the action who were later freed after payment of fine.

The official said the raiding team also fined shopkeeper for selling poor quality products and unhygienic conditions at their outlets.

Meanwhile, the traders expressed concern over the arrest and imposition of fines on shopkeepers.

They accused the administration officials of minting money from the traders in the name of fines.

They said the money collected thus went to the pockets of officials.
