Early completion of bridge in Shangla area demanded

SHANGLA: The residents of Kormang, Sangrai and Shahtoot have urged the authorities concerned to expedite the work on Kerai-Kormang bridge over Khan Khwar because the old wooden bridge is dangerous for travel.

They told mediapersons here on Saturday that construction work on the 400-metre bridge was started after the 2005 earthquake as it was included in the Earthquake Reconstruction and Rehabilitation Authority’s projects, but it could not be completed as yet.

They said that due to delay in reconstruction of the bridge they were compelled to use the ramshackle wooden bridge which had resulted in several incidents of people falling into the river. Over a dozen people had lost their lives so far in such incidents.

“We want swift completion of the concrete bridge which is being built along the wooden bridge. The construction could not complete due to negligence of the contractors,” Shaukat Ali, a driver, told this scribe while crossing the bridge.

He said that planks of the bridge were broken and ropes rusted and thus people passing through it faced the risk of their life. The residents demanded of the authorities concerned to ensure early construction of the bridge.

BODY FOUND: Body of a young man was found in a local bazaar in Kotaky area of Alpuri tehsil here.

According to police, one Fazal Wahab reported to them on Friday that his nephew Farhan Ali had a money dispute with Asmat Ali and on Thursday night he went to his home where the local people resolved the issue, but later on his body was found from Kotkay bazaar.

Doctors conducted the postmortem in DHQ hospital, Alpuri, which would be sent to the Khyber Teaching Hospital, Peshawar, for results. The police have registered the case.
