KARACHI: A potato chips seller was shot dead by robbers on the main Superhighway (Motorway-9) on Saturday morning, the SITE Superhighway Industrial Area police said.

They added that two armed men riding a motorbike intercepted a Suzuki van taking some people to New Sabzi Mandi near Five Star CNG station.

One of the passengers, Mohammad Zahir, 40, disembarked from the van and tried to flee.

However, the robbers got hold on him and asked him to hand them over a bag he was carrying. The police officer added that as he refused to hand over the bag, the suspects opened fire on him and fled.

He sustained a single bullet wound on his thigh. In the meantime, the van driver also disappeared. The incident occurred at around 9.15am.

A passer-by rickshaw driver took the injured Zahir to the Memon Medical Institute/Hospital, where he died during treatment owing to excessive bleeding, said the police.
