Case against three for abducting Hindu girl

BAHAWALPUR: The Yazman Saddar police registered a case against three people for allegedly abducting a teenage Hindu girl.

The police said the incident took place on May 5 but the first information report (FIR) was registered on Friday on the complaint of her father.

Leakho Ram in his complaint said he sent his 13-year-old daughter, Kashmala Devi, along with other family members to reap the wheat crop in the fields of Sanaullah and Haji Salabat in village 19-BC on May 5, where she went missing.

Leakho asked the whereabouts of his daughter from Sanaullah and Haji Salabat. First, they denied that they had abducted her but later they admitted that they along with Abdul Majeed had taken her away.

They assured him they would send her back to her parents but to no avail. The Yazman Sadar police registered the FIR against the three people.

DEATH ANNIVERSARY: The 53rd death anniversary of late Nawab of Bahawalpur Sadiq Muhammad Khan Abbasi was observed on Friday.

It was a local holiday to mark the death anniversary and all offices of the Punjab government, schools, colleges and Islamia University remained closed.

Literary and social bodies organised functions to pay homage to the late Nawab for his services. Speakers paid rich tributes to Nawab for annexation of his formal Bahawalpur state with Pakistan on the desire of Quaid-i-Azam Muhammad Ali Jinnah and later state’s merger into the then One Unit.

A documentary on the life of late Nawab was screened at the Central Library, which was also established by Nawab in 1924. Chief Librarian Rana Javed Iqbal also organized an exhibition of books, journals and newspapers containing the life and reforms of the late Nawab. The exhibition attracted large people in the library.

The Grand Subha Lines also held a function where former MPA Syed Tabish Alwari, Kissan Board Pakistan Vice President Jam Hazoor Baksh, Malik Habibullah Bhutta and others eugolised Nawab’s services.
